Overall, this place is a mess. New teachers are lucky to get two days of training, and you're expected to figure everything out as you go. Management is unhelpful, inconsistent, and often doesn't know its own procedures. Different rules apply to different people, and favoritism is a constant issue.
The workload is unreasonable and makes a healthy work-life balance nearly impossible. Beyond teaching, you're expected to prepare monthly performances, write and coach student speeches, and take on additional tasks with little notice. Management frequently provides important materials late, making it even harder to do your job.
Management is extremely micromanaging and discourages initiative unless it's approved in advance. Teachers who go above and beyond are sometimes criticized because management doesn't want one class to appear better than another.
Taking a sick day is difficult because there's no substitute teacher system. Even when you're genuinely sick, you'll likely be pressured to come in and made to feel guilty for taking your contracted time off.
The curriculum prioritizes finishing as many books as possible over actual learning, leaving students with little time to develop real English skills. Teachers are also expected to teach subjects like math and grammar[redacted]
The testing system feels more like a marketing tool than a meaningful assessment. Time limits are inconsistent, and students are sometimes tested on material they were never properly taught.
If you value good management, work-life balance, and a supportive work environment, I'd avoid working here.
This place used to be an SLP. There was CCTV spying, working full days in a classroom (including lunch) alone without even time to use the bathroom, [redacted], no transparency with pay for 6 months and witholding of pay (i.e. housing allowance/airfare). [redacted] Favouritism was also shown towards male teachers. Pictures of housing were very misleading and the house was in a terrible state on arrival despite taking cleaning fee.
